Studio 3 Weekly Update (Oct. 10, 2015)

Fall Showcase Details

The building will be open for Fall Showcase Night on Tuesday, October 13th from 3:30 to 7:00.  For Studio 3, each student will be a “tour guide” where they give a presentation and conduct a mini experiment.  Each student will give a tour to their family and then to guests if possible (about 20-30 minutes total).  After they finish their family tour, Studio 3 families are encouraged to explore the other showcase Studios and then return to pick up their student after about 20-30 minutes.  

  •  Volunteer Sign-Up for preparation and clean up
  •  Come between 3:30-7:00 (no assigned times); Allow about 30 min. total
  •  Dressing up is encouraged!  
  •  Book Fair will be open during the event in the large orange area


Screen Shot 2015-10-10 at 8.24.21 AMThis week’s homework will include reading a book + taking a quiz using our new online reading resource, Raz-Kids (sometimes called, “Kids a-z.”).  Your child will know what to do!  If you have time this weekend, you could ask them to show it to you.  We explored the app on Friday.

As always, homework will come home on Monday and will be due the last day of the week.

Field Trip to Valicor Industrial Waste Treatment Facility

Thank you to Bryson’s family for bringing this facility to our attention and for using their connections to help us get to be the 1st EVER field trip at this facility!

Thank you also to the parents that were able to go.  We don’t know about you, but we learned a ton!

Please enjoy the images!  In our 15 years as teachers, this is one of the best field trips we have ever attended.  They were absolutely phenomenal with the students and were so organized and prepared.  They even bought the kids a special treat.  They truly went above and beyond for our students!

Goal:  I can use quotation marks to pull out a direct quote from a text, without plagiarizing.

i.e.  I like how you said, “The waste treatment facility was an amazing trip!”

i.e. In the text the author said, “___________________.”

*Once we have done a few more lessons on this skill we will add it into the Digital Volunteer look-for’s.

Read Aloud

We started a great book, “The Big One-Oh” by Dean Pitchford.  Ask your child about the main character, Charlie.  Hopefully they will be excited to share with you about Charlie’s adventures thus far!
