This Week’s Blog Post to Comment On

Valicor Field Trip thank you letter post (should be tagged as, “valicor”)

 This Week’s Focus Points

  1.  Title:  Writing a “catchy title” to grab the reader’s attention while using correct capitalization.
  2. Letter Format:  Greeting (caps and comma), Body (paragraph structure), Closing (caps and comma), and Signature (caps)
  3. Paragraph Structure:  Having a main idea and supporting details that help you know the topic as well as understand what they are trying to share.

A Commenting Tip:

 Feedback vs. Specific Feedback

When giving feedback, you can go ahead and tell them exactly how to fix something.  View the two examples below and notice how the second example is more effective in helping students make revisions.

Feedback (general and broad) Example:  Please look at your greeting and make sure you used capitals and a comma correctly.

versus

Feedback (specific) Example:  Please look at your greeting.  Remember, in a greeting you will always capitalize each word.  Instead of “dear” you should write, “Dear.”  You will also want to put a comma after the last word in your greeting.
