This Week’s Blog Post to Comment On

Please provide comments to posts that are tagged, “ecosystem.”  Some students typed the tag as “ecosystems.”

 This Week’s Focus Points

  1.  Title:  Writing a “catchy title” to grab the reader’s attention while using correct capitalization.
  2. Paragraph Structure – TWO paragraphs:  For each paragraph, having a main idea and supporting details that help you know the topic as well as understand what they are trying to share.  Also, skipping a line to start the second paragraph so it is easy for the reader to notice that there are 2 separate paragraphs.
  3. Capitals, Punctuation, Spelling

A Commenting Tip:

 Feedback vs. Specific Feedback

When giving feedback, you can go ahead and tell them exactly how to fix something.  View the two examples below and notice how the second example is more effective in helping students make revisions.

Feedback (general and broad) Example:  Look back at your second paragraph.  See if you can add a main idea sentence.

versus

Feedback (specific) Example:  Look back at your second paragraph.  I notice you started with a detail.  It is a great detail but I was confused about your topic because you didn’t start with a main idea.  Maybe you could try a main idea like, “______________.”
