We are so thankful for a fantastic visit from Becky and her mother, Carol. Becky is Ms. Bennett’s aunt and she is deaf. She and her mother, Carol, came in to speak with the students as part of our current PBL (project based learning) unit on Civil Rights: Discrimination and Empathy.
PBL: Civil Rights Unit – Discrimination & Empathy
Students have been learning about The African American Civil Rights Movement (1954-1968). They created a timeline from their live chatter pic creations.
This week we will focus on the contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr. (main learning standard for 3rd grade), starting with the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
We are also working on some exciting possible culminating projects! More info. coming soon.
If you know of someone that would be willing to come in and speak about their experiences during the years of MLK, Jr., please let us know! Thank you.
Goal: I can use both the formal (2 words) and informal (contraction) spellings for various contractions.
See examples HERE.
Goal: I can identify and explain the attributes of various categories of polygons.
i.e. A rectangle is a polygon, quadrilateral, and parallelogram based on its sides, angles, and other attributes.
This video is a little lengthy, but will give you a good description of the current learning goals for math.
Reflex App. – Math Fact Fluency
Currently we have 8/50 students who have passed multiplication/division.
This week we are going to try something new. Your child, depending on his her current percentage, will be assigned work time in Reflex (also known as, “earn a green light”) as needed, versus Reflex time each day, for each student (which is what we have done up to this point).
We are continuing the wonderful book, Captain Nobody by Dean Pitchford. Please ask your child for a summary of the story thus far!
