A Few Odds and Ends:
Water Bottles: We really encourage each student to have a water bottle at school, especially as the weather starts warming up.
Studio 3 Wish List: Thank you so much for all the great outdoor recess equipment. The kids have been loving the bubbles, chalk, etc.! We are still in need of a few kleenex boxes (allergies…ugh) to get us through the end of June.
Summer Session at EPiC: As you begin thinking about summer, please keep in mind that school is still going to be a normal routine for us in June. We are very excited about our plan for a truly Personalized PBL unit for the month and believe that it will be a great way to wrap up the year! We will also continue individualized learning time each day, as it is such a valuable part of your child’s learning.
Mid-Continent Public Library Summer Reading Program: Register now! Students can start logging their reading minutes on May 16th, which is great, because they will all be reading plenty up thru the last day (June 17th)! They can earn free books and a t-shirt.
In-Building Volunteer Sign-Up: May 2016
PBL Unit: Entrepreneurship
Students have now learned about goods/services, taxes, costs/benefits, and capital/human/natural resources.
Today, students were able to interview a few entrepreneurs. They did a great job of asking “open” questions, along with quality follow-up questions. They took notes and posted a thank you letter to their blog. They will use all of this information over the next 1.5 weeks to help them create their own business! More info. to come.
A very special thank you to the following entrepreneurs that came today:
Mrs. Ackart, Mrs. Oyler, Mrs. Sanford, Mrs. Flener, Mrs. Neal, and Mr. Carlos
Goal: I can solve one and two-step word problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division.
*Teaching Point: Mathematicians, just like readers, will read, pause, and take notes. They will visualize to help them understand the number story.
Example #2: Which equation matches the word problem?
Math Facts: Reflex
Goal by End of May = 95% or higher
Goal by End of June = 100%
Goal: I can write a friendly letter, which includes all of the parts of a letter. The body of my letter has a main idea followed by specific details.
