A Few Odds and Ends:
Water Bottles: We really encourage each student to have a water bottle at school, especially as the weather starts warming up.
Summer Session at EPiC: As you begin thinking about summer, please keep in mind that school is still going to be a normal routine for us in June. We are very excited about our plan for a truly Personalized PBL unit for the month and believe that it will be a great way to wrap up the year! We will also continue individualized learning time each day, as it is such a valuable part of your child’s learning.
Mid-Continent Public Library Summer Reading Program: Register now! Students can start logging their reading minutes on May 16th, which is great, because they will all be reading plenty up thru the last day (June 17th)! They can earn free books and a t-shirt.
In-Building Volunteer Sign-Up: May 2016
PBL Unit: Entrepreneurship
Friday was “Pitch Day!”
(Pics and Video coming soon)
The students did such a wonderful job “pitching” their ideas. A special thank you to Dr. Schmitz, Ms. Clark, Mr. Mike, and Mrs. Maynor for being judges (aka “sharks”).
After pitches were approved, students worked on branding their business. After studying popular business names and logos, they decided on a business name and logo then set their prices and created their sign.
This week students will work on creating any tutorials for their business as well as getting supplies ready. IMPORTANT NOTE: If your child is needing to create their tutorial at home (i.e. cooking) because it isn’t something they can do at school and/or if they need any materials from home, they will bring home a sheet (Homework page) with this information tomorrow, Monday the 16th.
IMPORTANT: THIS FRIDAY – Students will run their business MONDAY, MAY 23rd for the EPiC 4th and 5th graders. Please feel free to come between 10:45 and 11:00 to shop. We will have a $35.00 gift card for you to use! We eat lunch at 11:11 so encourage you stay and eat with your child if that works for your schedule.
Goal: I can describe the characteristics of geometrical shapes.

Teacher Read Aloud: The Witches
By Roald Dahl
SPECIAL NOTE: This week will be the last week for homework. We will NOT send homework home in June, but in saying that, do expect students to read a decent amount at home. There will be particular cases in which we will ask certain students to work on specific online tools (i.e. Reflex, Lexia, etc). We will notify you via email later this week if we plan to have a specific June homework plan for your child.
A copy of this homework will come home with your child on Monday, May 16th and will be due by Friday, May 20th.
