PBL:  Regions & Climates + Lines of Latitude & Longitude

Students learned about various regions, and their climates, of Africa.  They discovered that while there are many poor areas of Africa in which people do struggle to get clean water, there are also big cities, deserts, rainforests, and savannas.

We have a very special guest coming next week that will share his experiences of growing up in one of the countries in the Western Region of Africa.  Pictures and video to follow in next weekend’s post!

ELA:   “Right There” Questions

“Right There” questions have answers that can be found “RIGHT THERE” in the text.  No inferences needed!  Here are the strategies we are practicing:

Math:  Multiplication

This past week we began multiplication!  We start with a concrete understanding of the “why” behind it.  We build arrays and then get the students to make the connection that it is simply repeated addition.

4 x 6 = 24; 6+6+6+6=24; 4 +4+4+4+4+4=24

4 x 6 = 24; 6+6+6+6=24; 4 +4+4+4+4+4=24
